United Way of Treasure Valley Announces 2007-08 Grant Cycle Open
The 2007-08 United Way Community Impact grant cycle is launching with Letters-of-Intent to apply for funding due by October 6. United Way is hosting a public meeting about United Way and the grant application process next Thursday, October 5, 2:30-4:00 p.m. at the United Way office, 1276 River Street, Boise in the 2nd floor Briefing Room.
United Way Community Safety Net grants are made to non-profit organizations in three focus areas addressing Youth, Health, and Families. Funding goals include: For Youth—assuring quality affordable child care, mentoring, safe places outside of school for kids; For Health—access to health and dental care, and mental health services for low-income families and individuals; For Families—programs addressing family violence, food insecurity, and financial self-sufficiency.
Volunteers are recruited each year to make decisions about program effectiveness and community need. From January through March volunteers review applications, make site visits, and hear presentations. More details about funding goals, the process, or how to get involved as a volunteer can be found at
www.unitedwaytv.org or by calling Stacey Nelson-Kumar at 336-1070 ext 115. Last year 59 programs operated by 40 agencies received grants from United Way of Treasure Valley.
The Community Campaign underway now is the primary source of funding for these grants. The goal of this year’s campaign is $5.75 million. Corporate Champions cover United Way’s administrative costs so that 100% of an individual’s gift goes directly to work in serving the community’s needs. Historically, about 30% of the money raised is restricted by the donor for a particular agency.
