United Way of Treasure Valley and partner agencies to distribute more than 15,000 prescription drug discount cards
Boise, Idaho – In an effort to help people with no prescription drug coverage lower the cost of their medicine, United Way of Treasure Valley is teaming up with local pharmacies and non-profit agencies to hand out free prescription drug discount cards. The FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards are available beginning this week at more than 80 locations throughout the Treasure Valley including most Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Walgreen and Wal-Mart pharmacies. See attached list for all drug discount card locations.
The cards save an average of 20 percent or more on prescription drug costs and are accepted by most pharmacies in Idaho and throughout the U.S. They have no usage or age limits, income requirements or registration forms, and can be used immediately to reduce the cost of medicine for anyone that has no prescription drug coverage.
The cards are being distributed free of charge, courtesy of United Way of Treasure Valley, local pharmacies, the Boys and Girls Club of Ada County and more than 30 Treasure Valley non-profit agencies. The program is part of a national effort between United Way’s and the FamilyWize Community Service Partnership with a goal of reducing the cost of medicine for children, families, and individuals with no prescription drug coverage by $100 million in five years. Currently, one of out every five people in the United States has no prescription drug coverage.
"Too many families in our community have insufficient or no prescription drug coverage at all," said Sally Zive, President & CEO of United Way of Treasure Valley. "Healthcare costs are one of the top concerns for people in the Treasure Valley and the FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards will help families who otherwise could not afford much needed prescription drugs. We hope everyone in our community with no prescription drug coverage will visit a participating pharmacy or non-profit agency or give us a call to obtain their free prescription drug discount card today.”
