United Way Day of Action mobilizes community around volunteerism

Boise, Idaho—United Way is mobilizing more than 100 volunteers throughout the Valley for a one-day event Thursday, November 13. The volunteers will be working on service projects at seven different nonprofit organizations. To date, 80 volunteers have registered for the event.

The United Way “Day of Action” is an opportunity for adult volunteers to invest their time in a service project that truly benefits our community. Whether a first time volunteer or a long time community supporter, the Day of Action is a chance for everyone to get out and make a difference. Day of Action projects incorporate a wide array of service; everything from organizing donated clothing for refugee families, to serving lunch to a Veteran, to stringing holiday lights at the Idaho Botanical Gardens.

Participating organizations include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County, Boise Samaritan Village, Agency for New Americans, Idaho State Veterans Home, Idaho Botanical Gardens, Taft Elementary School and Life’s Kitchen.

“Volunteering can change your life,” explains Sally Zive, President and CEO of United Way of Treasure Valley. “Especially during these tough economic times, spending a few hours and helping others in need right here in our community can make a big difference.”

The registration deadline to participate in the 2008 Day of Action is Monday, November 10. Volunteers can register online at www.unitedwaytv.org/volunteer.
