SUPERVALU/ALBERTSONS ANNOUNCES COMMITMENT AND MAJOR CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE TREASURE VALLEY

Retailer launches sponsorship of United Way’s Born Learning campaign and multi-year commitment to the Albertsons Boise Open golf tournament

BOISE – Feb. 20, 2007 - SUPERVALU (NYSE: SVU) today announced a major philanthropic commitment to Treasure Valley communities by donating $150,000 to the local United Way’s new Born Learning campaign and committing to sponsor the Albertsons Boise Open through 2010.

“At the heart of SUPERVALU’S charitable giving is the belief that being a good corporate citizen is an ongoing responsibility,” said Jeff Noddle, chairman and CEO of SUPERVALU.  “Albertsons has a long history of sustaining vital local partnerships and we are proud to continue that support with these announcements today.  By doing so, we hope to enhance the quality of life for our customers and associates.”

The newly-launched Born Learning campaign is a United Way public service program offering a comprehensive approach to school readiness.  Its focus is to help parents, grandparents, and caregivers explore ways to turn everyday moments into new learning opportunities for young children.

Learning starts long before school does.  Our children start learning the day they’re born.  The goal of Born Learning is to help educate and encourage busy parents, grandparents and caregivers on the importance of quality early learning experiences.” said Sally Zive, president and CEO, United Way of Treasure Valley.  “As a child’s first and most important teacher, parents can easily turn everyday moments into fun, engaging learning opportunities – and by doing so they give their child the best start possible.”

In another significant community partnership, SUPERVALU agrees to extend its support and sponsorship of the Albertsons Boise Open presented by First Health through 2010.

Albertsons has been a title sponsor of Idaho’s only PGA Tour event, the Albertsons Boise Open presented by First Health, since 1990.  It is one of thirty-one tournaments on the highly successful Nationwide Tour.

The community-wide event is much more than a golf tournament, having provided nearly $6 million to Idaho non-profit organizations.  In addition, it showcases Boise and the State of Idaho to millions of viewers internationally on the Golf Channel.

"The Albertsons Boise Open is a landmark event in the Treasure Valley with a long-standing tradition,” said Jeff Sanders, president, Jeff Sanders Promotions.” We are excited that SUPERVALU and Albertsons have agreed to extend their support and sponsorship and we look forward to continuing to provide the community with not only a first-class professional golf tournament, but with an incredible vehicle to impact Idaho.”

Donations from the 2006 golf tournament reached a new high and resulted in more than $924,000 being distributed to local non-profit groups.

“SUPERVALU is passionate about supporting the communities we serve,” said Noddle.  “We are happy to use our time and resources to preserve our role as a local partner, neighbor, and friend by serving as title sponsors for these two important commitments.”

Last year, as a company, SUPERVALU contributed more than $1 million to the United Way.  This year the company is poised to not only meet, but exceed that figure.
