United Way Raises Record Amount for Treasure Valley

Boise, Idaho – United Way of Treasure Valley announced a record fundraising total of $5.9 million for 2008-09. The amount represents a 9% increase in funds raised over last year, and is the largest annual campaign total in the organization’s 81 year history.

The announcement was made in front of more than 500 supporters Wednesday night at United Way’s Community Campaign Celebration at Boise State University’s Stueckle Sky Center.

“We are honored and proud,” said Sally Zive, president and CEO of United Way of Treasure Valley. “An increase in giving during one of the most difficult economies in years reminds us that this is a community that will pull together to help people get back on their feet.”

“Our sleeves are rolled up. We’re investing every gift back into the community through programs proven to help people where they need it the most.”

The record total was announced by United Way’s 2008-09 Community Campaign Chair, Jenifer Dellgard, Vice President Idaho Marketing, Bank of the Cascades. Dellgard led the effort; which included organizing campaigns at more than 300 Treasure Valley companies and organizations, representing more than 12,000 donors.

“Because of your hard work, your commitment, and because you cared, we’re announcing a record fundraising total,” Dellgard told the crowd of 500, which included many corporate volunteers who worked on the campaign. “This just proves what we’ve known all along; that in tough times Idahoans look after their neighbors in need.”

The event also included the unveiling of the 2009 Spirit of Caring award winners. Fourteen Treasure Valley companies, organizations and individuals received awards for having outstanding campaigns, increases in fundraising, and an overall commitment to community involvement. See the link below for the complete list of award winners.

Some of the largest corporate campaign increases for United Way in 2008-09 included:
