Chief Executive Officer



United Way of Treasure Valley (UWTV) seeks a CEO candidate who will assume leadership of the organization in the near future. Under the guidance of its current CEO and Board of Directors, UWTV has built a strong reputation in complex resource development, non-profit management and community leadership in the areas of education, income and health. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated passion for improving the lives of others, a history of working collaboratively with other volunteers and community leaders, and a personal reputation of respect and integrity. He or she will create awareness and enthusiasm in the community, ensuring the involvement of diverse constituencies in developing and implementing effective solutions to problems preventing individuals and families from achieving their potential. The CEO maintains operational accountability and fiscal integrity within the policies set by the Board of Directors and United Way Worldwide.

Leadership Responsibilities:

Assumes a major leadership role in positioning United Way of Treasure Valleys community impact agenda among its stakeholders. Thinks long term and creates a vision that motivates others to take action. Fosters strategic relationships with individuals and organizations from the non-profit, private, and public sectors. These include community leaders, non-profit agency partners, corporate executives, elected officials, as well as other United Way representatives. Develops or plays a key role in forming task forces or committees related to key community issues. Represents UWTV at community functions and speaking engagements, presenting a professional image and advocating Community Impact. Provides effective team leadership, guidance and support to UWTV staff. Promotes a highly collaborative environment that is conducive to professional growth, excellence, and mentoring.

Organizational Responsibilities:

Presides over strategic planning and implementation to accomplish UWTVs mission. Assists the Board of Directors and Committees with direction in matters of policy formulation, interpretation and implementation; long and short-range goal setting and planning. Keeps the Board of Directors informed of the organizations activities, current and emergent needs, goals, and progress. Manages the United Way brand as a strategic asset. Works with marketing and communications team to develop effective and unified messaging for use in all customer relations including collateral, website, media relations, and social networking and other emerging technologies. Cultivates new sources of volunteer leadership from throughout the community. Leads UWTV's organizational development efforts, including coaching and mentoring staff members as part of their personal and career development process. Oversees hiring, training, and supervision for existing and new staff members including the assignment of work responsibilities, the assessment of competency, the timely writing and delivery of performance appraisals. Responsible for financial management of UWTV and all of its programs in accordance with principles of United Way Worldwide, federal and state entities, and other funding sources. This includes development and monitoring of the operating budgets; payments to vendors and grant-funded partners; oversight of financial control policies; maintenance of financial records; preparation of audit. Manages and oversees UWTVs technology assets. Uses long- and short-term planning to budget for UWTVs technology needs.

Fundraising Responsibilities:

Provides leadership to develop the financial resources to achieve UWTVs Community Impact agenda. Establishes resource development goals with the Board of Directors and develops creative strategies for achieving these goals through personal action and leadership and management of the UWTV staff, Board, and community volunteers. Develops and cultivates relationships with current and potential donors including individuals, corporations, foundations, and sponsors.

Education Requirements:

Minimum of an undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of five years managerial and sales and/or customer relations experience in a nonprofit, governmental or for-profit corporate environment or equivalent combination of higher education and experience.

Experience Requirements:

Strong network of personal relationships with community non-profit, business, and government leaders in the Treasure Valley. Demonstrated history and passion for improving the lives of others in the areas of education, income, and health. Impeccable reputation for honesty and integrity. Proven business leadership skills, including goal setting and accomplishment, staff development and supervision, management of financial resources, administration, process design and implementation, change management, and collaboration. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including relationship building, cultural and political sensitivity, case development and persuasion, public speaking, and writing.
