United Way of Treasure Valley announces nearly $2 million in grants

Boise, Idaho – United Way of Treasure Valley announced nearly $2 million in grant awards this morning to Treasure Valley non-profit organizations.  More than 35 local agencies will receive United Way funding this year to support 57 programs that improve lives in our community.  United Way made the announcement at its 79th Annual Meeting.

Grants were awarded in three focus areas supporting youth, health and families.  More than 75 different programs applied for funding, many of them for the first time.  In fact, nearly a third of all the programs this year had never applied for United Way funds in the past.  Grant sizes range from $1,900 to $164,000.

United Way uses an open, competitive process in awarding its Community Safety Net grants.  At the heart of the process are more than 70 community volunteers who review each program application and do on-site examinations before making their funding recommendations.

“The process of selecting and awarding funds to organizations making a difference in our community is volunteer driven,” said Sally Zive, president and CEO of United Way of Treasure Valley.  “This year, volunteers who represent every walk of life, reviewed more than 75 program applications, spent 57 hours at agency site visits and 19 hours listening to presentations.  Our committed volunteers ensure a fair and trustworthy system that distributes funds to programs making the greatest impact in the Treasure Valley.”
