EDUCATION

United Way of Treasure Valley promotes Education goals that give children a healthy start and supports them along the road to achieving their full potential – a lifetime of success. Our years of work with Success by 6 and Born Learning initiatives, from immunization promotion to kindergarten readiness, have helped young people and their families toward that ultimate goal.

Our community investments and initiatives are aligned to achieve the same goals. United Way of Treasure Valley Community Fund grant goals for 2009-2010 include:

    •   Readiness to achieve in school

•

Academic achievement

•

Productive & engaged youth

Experience gleaned through relationships with our partner organizations working directly with young people, and recent research from United Way of America, emphasizes 4 critical milestones to focus on in a young person’s life:
  1. Early learning and kindergarten readiness
  2. Reading proficiency by 4th grade
  3. Transitioning to junior high
  4. High school graduation with a plan for post-secondary education and work.
United Way supports early childhood development through Born Learning, a School Readiness Initiative that encourages Treasure Valley parents to prepare their children for success in school, work and life through active involvement in their child’s earliest learning experiences.

United Way of Treasure Valley has launched a project to inform the community about our current education attainment. Idaho’s college-going rate is reportedly 49th nationally. Simply put, our kids aren’t going to college at the rates that will secure their futures and our overall community economic and civic aspirations. United Way has seeded a research project -- Treasure Valley Education Partnership.
