The lack of a sobering station and detox center to serve those with substance abuse issues in our community remains one of the greatest needs in the Treasure Valley. Through United Way’s Substance Abuse Recovery and Prevention Initiative, we are continuing to work and build partnerships with government, business, health care, law enforcement, non-profits, education, and social services to build and operate a community detox center.
This year, United Way was instrumental in securing $1.5 million in federal and state grants with an additional $1.4 million in request still pending. As a member of the
Mayor of Boise’s Detox Committee, United Way has also committed an additional $50,000 to help this center become a reality.
United Way also made progress this year on the prevention side of our initiative through a unique partnership with the
Idaho Meth Project.
This unique partnership will save start-up and administrative costs to the project of up to $500,000.
