On January 30, 2009 United Way of Treasure Valley and
Bank of America kicked-off this year’s Free Tax Help Program. The goal of the program is to raise awareness about free tax preparation sites in the Treasure Valley and to promote the availability of the Earned Income Tax Credit to low-income taxpayers.
It’s estimated that here in the Treasure Valley more than $11 million of EITC goes unclaimed each year, and 25% of eligible taxpayers fail to claim the credit. This money, up to $4,824 per eligible family could make a huge difference in the lives of many working individuals and families in our community, not to mention helping our overall local economy. Our current economic situation makes it even more imperative that we reach out to those people who may be newly eligible for this important tax credit.
This year’s program will again feature media advertisements including bus ads, posters and a radio PSA by Idaho Treasurer
Ron Crane encouraging taxpayers to call
2-1-1 to locate a free tax site near them. Program materials are available below. Please help us spread the word about these tax preparation sites and help those individuals and families most in need in our community access this free program.
