TREASURE VALLEY — Christmas arrived a few weeks early this year for two local residents who won big-ticket prizes in a drawing held by the United Way of Treasure Valley.
Barb Leeds, who donated to the United Way through the Meridian School District campaign, won a one-year lease for a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C300 sports sedan valued at more than $35,000 and donated by the Lyle Pearson Co.
Anne Hergenreder who participated in the Neighborhood Housing Services campaign, a 50-inch Samsung high-definition television valued at more than $2,000, United Way officials said.
The two winners came from 20 finalists whose names were selected at random in weekly drawings during this year’s United Way Community Campaign, beginning on Aug. 30. In order to qualify, participants only had to attend a United Way campaign meeting.
More than 350 Treasure Valley companies and organizations conducted workplace campaigns this year.
Eight car finalists showed up to draw for a key and each had an opportunity to try it. Leeds was successful on the seventh attempt.
Each of the TV finalists was slated to receive a wrapped present containing a TV remote with only one actually turning on the set.
Proceeds from this year’s United Way Community Campaign are used to provide social services to families and individuals in the Treasure Valley.
